FACES by August Sander
22 February–30 April, 2023press release
f22 foto space is proud to present FACES by August Sander (1876-1964), an exquisite exhibition showcasing the German documentary photographer's renowned portraits, many of which debuted in his Face of Our Time photo book published in 1929.
In this exhibition, viewers are encouraged to dive in the sociological studies during Sander's time, witnessing the German cultural, class and economic history of the 1900s to 1930s. Categorised in Country; City; Class and Professionals; Artists and Women, the photographs provide a narrative that took place in an era of great changes amongst different groups before and after the First World War.
A century later, we continue to witness progress and enormous social changes globally which deserve an observant yet compassionate witness, while taking in the spell of time and societal conformation which is very much relevant to our everyday lives.
